The year is 1975. King Faisal bin Abdulaziz is dead. Today we stand before the King Abdulaziz Mosque. It is a historic Friday mosque in Riyadh. It is located in the al-Murabba neighborhood. It stands next to the Murabba Palace compound. The National Museum Park is also nearby. All are within the King Abdulaziz Historical Center.

The King Abdulaziz Mosque covers 5540 square meters. It was first built in the 1940s. This corresponded with the construction of Murabba Palace. The mosque held the funerary prayers for King Faisal. This event followed his assassination in 1975. Later, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City rebuilt it in 1998.

King Abdulaziz ibn Saud ordered the mosque built in the 1940s. It was part of the Murabba Palace construction. It served as his place of worship until his death in 1953.

Many heads of state attended King Faisal’s funerary prayers here. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan was present. Yasser Arafat came. Hafez al-Assad attended. Idi Amin also came. Houari Boumediene was there. The Royal Commission for Riyadh City rebuilt the mosque in 1998. This was part of the King Abdulaziz Historical Center project. The mosque still covers an area of 5540 square meters.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Qoud was a prominent imam of the King Abdulaziz Mosque. Sheikh Saad bin Faleh also served as imam. Sheikh Fahd bin Abdul Rahman Al Fahd was another imam.
