Built by the generous Sulaiman bin Abdulaziz Al Rajhi it opened in 2004. Its Moorish Revival architecture is breathtaking. The mosque’s design incorporates elements of Andalusian style. Two minarets reach 55 meters into the sky. A stunning dome 37 meters high crowns the building. The dome’s diameter is 28.8 meters. Inside a central hall 25 meters high is bathed in natural light. A glass ceiling allows the sun to filter through.
But Al Rajhi Grand Mosque is more than just a beautiful building. It’s a vibrant hub of religious and community life. The mosque provides a wide range of services. It hosts Quran memorization classes for all ages. It offers classes in recitation and Tajweed. The women’s institute Dar al-Bayan provides similar classes for women and girls. The mosque’s library is a treasure trove of Islamic knowledge. It contains 67000 volumes on various subjects.
The mosque even provides funerary services. It includes washing facilities for the deceased. These modern facilities are designed to accommodate up to eleven funerals simultaneously.
