Let’s delve into the story of the Salam Mosque. It is a place of worship with a unique past. The Salam Mosque, also known as Masjid Salam, is a Sunni Islam mosque. It was formerly called Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman Al Faisal Mosque.

Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman built it in 1941. The mosque is within the Salam Park. This park is southwest of Qasr al-Hukm District. The location itself carries a story. The mosque was built on Prince Abdullah’s private orchard called Salam.

What makes the Salam Mosque special? It is one of the first mosques in Riyadh to use reinforced concrete. This was a modern construction method at the time. Sheikh Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman bin Ali Al Hamdan became its first imam. He guided the mosque’s early years.

Time moved on and Riyadh grew. In 2003, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City renovated the mosque. This happened during the Salam Park project. The renovation ensured the mosque remained a vital part of the community.

The Salam Park itself is worth noting. It spans 61 acres and was opened in 2004. The park features a large artificial lake and a pedestrian track. Omrania and Associates and Aukett Fitzroy Robinson designed it together.

The Salam Mosque sits at the park’s center. It represents serenity amidst the bustling city. The park is divided into four sections. These are the Palm Grove, the Lake, the Hillside Zone, and the Ecological Zone. Three main entrances provide access. They are al-Marsa Gate, al-Bahirah Gate, and al-Sahah Gate.

Consider the mosque’s name. “Salam” translates to “peace”. This reflects the tranquility it offers. It also represents the harmony between tradition and modernity.
