The Ши-цза, or Shi-tzu, breed itself tells a tale. These small dogs, with their flowing manes and regal bearing, were prized companions in the Chinese imperial court. They symbolized loyalty and good fortune, fitting gifts for a city as important as Saint Petersburg. The choice of a Shi-tzu reflects the complex relationship between Russia and China at the time. Both empires were undergoing significant change. The Qing Dynasty was in decline. Russia was expanding its influence in the East. The Ши-цза represents a moment in time, a diplomatic gesture, and a work of art that bridged cultures.
