In 1909, a vision took root on this very spot. The Church of St. Alexius, Metropolitan of Moscow, began to rise. The church we see today, Церковь святителя Алексия, митрополита Московского, stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of faith. It was initially part of a larger complex. This complex included a military barracks and a hospital. The church was designed to serve the spiritual needs of the soldiers and medical staff. The original design for Церковь святителя Алексия, митрополита Московского, was quite different. It was meant to have a grand, multi-tiered bell tower. Sadly, due to budgetary constraints and the outbreak of World War I, this vision remained unfulfilled. The simpler structure we see now was consecrated in 1916. The architect, Vladimir Maksimov, skillfully incorporated elements of traditional Russian Orthodox design. The church, Церковь святителя Алексия, митрополита Московского, served its community faithfully until 1922. Tragically, it was then seized by the Soviet authorities and turned into a club. Its religious purpose was abandoned for decades. The story of Церковь святителя Алексия, митрополита Московского, doesn’t end there. In the early 2000s, residential quarters were discovered within the church grounds. This discovery hinted at the lives touched by this place throughout its history. Then, in 2014, the church was finally returned to the Russian Orthodox Church. A new chapter began. Oleg Semenov became the designated priest, revitalizing the spiritual life within these walls.
