In 1922, thieves targeted the altar, stealing precious artifacts. Church employees faced accusations of negligence. Further arrests followed in the early 1930s, targeting the church’s priests. By 1935, the Leningrad Regional Executive Committee decreed its closure. Though the church’s doors shut, its spirit could not be extinguished. The building, repurposed under Soviet rule, served first the Leningrad military port and then, in a surprising twist, became an ice rink in 1961. Portraits of Lenin replaced religious icons, a stark reminder of the changing times. Yet, the echoes of prayers and chants undoubtedly lingered within those walls.
