From the heart of a true artist, a unique gem emerged in Moscow. The Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre opened its doors in 2002. It marked a unique event in Russia’s modern opera history. Galina Vishnevskaya, a legendary soprano, poured her heart and soul into this project. Her vision was to create a place where aspiring opera singers could hone their craft. The Centre isn’t just a building; it’s a living testament to Vishnevskaya’s passion and dedication.
The Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre offers internships to singers with professional training. They come from Russia and all corners of the globe, drawn by the Centre’s reputation for excellence. Here, they prepare to take on leading roles in the opera world. Vishnevskaya herself worked closely with the students, sharing her vast experience and knowledge. Masterclasses and workshops were conducted by renowned figures like Mstislav Rostropovich, Boris Pokrovsky, and even international stars like Zubin Mehta, Teresa Berganza, and Placido Domingo. The Centre became a melting pot of talent, nurturing the next generation of opera stars. Many graduates have gone on to become soloists in major Moscow theaters. In its first twelve years, the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre carved a special place for itself in Moscow’s cultural landscape. Eleven opera productions were staged, and numerous concerts were held. These performances earned high praise from both audiences and critics. The Centre’s opera troupe didn’t confine itself to its own stage. They toured extensively throughout Russia and internationally. Some notable projects include the Italian Seasons in Russia and Operalia. This was a world opera competition directed by Placido Domingo. The Centre also hosted its own competition, the Galina Vishnevskaya International Opera Singers Competition. It continues to champion young talent and promote the art of opera worldwide.
