Let’s delve into the story of this magnificent church. The Church of the Holy благоверного князя Игоря Черниговского is located not far from the writer’s village of Peredelkino in Moscow. It stands on the grounds of the ancient village of Spasskoe-Lykovo. This location is closely linked to the spiritual culture and historical events of Russia.

The idea to construct a grand church near the Patriarch’s residence belonged to Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia. He approved the project in 2005 and blessed the construction of the Church of the Holy благоверного князя Игоря Черниговского.

Alexandr Shipkov was chosen as the architect. He drew inspiration from the великолепие of the Church of Christ the Savior and the architecture of St. Basil’s Cathedral. If you look closely you may notice similar cupolas.

The church was designed to accommodate 1200 worshipers. It closely resembles the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in its precise and stylistic features. Built in the neo-Russian style, it is a significant landmark.

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow consecrated the foundation stone of the Church of the Holy благоверного князя Игоря Черниговского on January 20 2010. He also consecrated the crosses and bells of the temple under construction on March 4 2011. The grand consecration of the church took place on June 17 2012. It was performed by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow. He also celebrated the first Divine Liturgy in the newly consecrated church.
