“Could this humble place truly carry the weight of spiritual history?” asks a pilgrim. Here before us stands the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius. It is a beacon of faith in Moscow. This church honors the two saints who brought literacy and Christianity to Slavic peoples.

Saints Cyril and Methodius gave Slavic people the chance to read Holy Scripture. They enabled services in their native language. The church stands as a symbol of gratitude and sacred love. We remember these first teachers of the Slavs with all the Church.

Construction of the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius began with the blessing of Patriarch Alexy II. Residents of the Rostokino district initiated it in 2005. On March 27 2014 a wooden chapel was erected. It honored the icon of the Mother of God “Inexhaustible Chalice.” Bishop Tikhon of Podolsk consecrated it that July.

The cornerstone of the new church was consecrated on November 19 2017. The construction of the main church saw regular inspections. High-ranking members of the Holy Synod oversaw the work.

Patriarch Kirill himself dedicated the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius. The Supreme Synod regularly held working meetings on the construction site. They carefully considered every detail. The authorities constantly provided informational support. TV channels covered the construction. This brought awareness to many.

The church was included in the Patriarchal program for construction. It may be the hundredth church built under this program. Vladimir Resin mentioned this fact. He spoke of memories of war years and childhood spent in Rostokino.

Yuri Bakin studies the history of the parish. He collects documents about the church’s history. Contact him if you want to share memories or historical information.

On December 26 2021 a historical event took place. Metropolitan Saransk and Mordovian Zinovy and Archbishop Yegoryevsky Matfey consecrated the small church. It was dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius. After that the first Divine Liturgy took place.

In 2022 Patriarch Kirill performed the Great consecration of the church. He also led the Divine Liturgy in the newly consecrated church.

Participating in the construction of a church in your area is a holy deed. All are immensely grateful to those who help with resources. A charity foundation supports construction. Yuri Valentinovich Schemerov leads it.

The Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius is more than bricks and mortar. It is a testament to faith. It is a cultural and spiritual center. It reminds us of the power of literacy and faith. The church connects us to the legacy of Saints Cyril and Methodius. Their work transformed the Slavic world.
