Have you ever wondered where those big red buses in Moscow come from? This is the Southern Bus Depot, known as Filial Yuzhny GUP “Mosgortrans”. The depot is a vital part of the Moscow public transportation system. It’s a hub that makes sure those iconic buses get where they need to be, on time and ready to take people across the city. This place has a history that goes back to the 1920s. In the 1960s, the depot was given its current name and was serving the 9th park, but then it was added to the Southern Bus Depot. It’s been serving the southern part of Moscow ever since. For decades, it’s seen countless buses come and go, each carrying on its own story of journeys and destinations. The Southern Bus Depot has been home to some of Moscow’s most iconic buses, including the “Ikarus” models, which were built in Hungary. That’s right, not all of Moscow’s buses are built in Russia! Today, the depot is a modern facility. It’s a testament to how Moscow’s public transportation has evolved over the years. Through its many transformations, the Southern Bus Depot has continued to play a vital role in the city’s development, serving a constant flow of people from one corner of Moscow to another.
