Across the Moskva River, the Trekhgornaya Manufaktura has witnessed Moscow’s evolution since the late 18th century. Established in 1799 by Vasily Prokhorov, Trekhgornaya Manufaktura quickly became a prominent textile producer. Initially named “Trekhgornaya Manufaktura,” it has seen various names and owners throughout its history. Prokhorov, a savvy businessman, expanded the factory’s operations, even establishing a school for workers’ children. The factory’s success continued, weathering even the tumultuous period following the Patriotic War of 1812. Prokhorov, a forward-thinking entrepreneur, entrusted management to his son, Timofey, who continued the family legacy. He also opened a school for workers’ children in 1820. The Prokhorovs prioritized education alongside production. This focus contributed to a skilled workforce and sustained the factory’s growth throughout the 19th century. Even a devastating fire in 1877 couldn’t extinguish Trekhgornaya Manufaktura’s spirit. The resilient workers rebuilt, even exceeding prior production levels. The factory’s resilience even attracted the attention of Tsar Nicholas I. He was so impressed by the factory’s swift recovery, he issued a special commendation. The factory’s output increased over the decades, reaching two hundred million meters by 1895. This growth cemented Trekhgornaya Manufaktura’s place as a vital part of Russia’s industrial landscape. Despite social unrest and political upheaval during the early 20th century, the factory remained a significant employer and production center. During World War II, Trekhgornaya Manufaktura contributed significantly to the war effort. The factory produced over 450,000 blankets for the Red Army in 1943. This monumental effort underscored the factory’s unwavering commitment to Russia’s defense. In 1949, the factory received the prestigious Order of Lenin. This recognition highlighted its pivotal role in the country’s industrial and military success. Trekhgornaya Manufaktura has continued to evolve throughout its existence. Today, it thrives as a hub for commerce, art, and culture, still reflecting the spirit of innovation that characterized its origins. Trekhgornaya Manufaktura stands as a testament to the ingenuity and perseverance of the generations who have worked within its walls.
