Nestled amidst the modern expanse of Moscow, lies the quaint village of Sosenki. It’s a place where time seems to slow down, a whisper of the past echoing amidst the bustling city’s clamor. Sosenki, known since 1502, has witnessed centuries of change. Originally, Sosenki was a small settlement. Boyarin Beklemishev established the first post station on the road from Moscow to the Crimean Khanate of Mengli-Girey. The village derived its name, Sosenki, from the towering pine trees that once graced the area, their presence a constant throughout the village’s history. By the 18th century, Sosenki had grown. It was home to approximately 200 residents. The village continued to thrive. Over time, many notable figures passed through or resided in Sosenki. Their stories are interwoven with the fabric of the village’s history. These included writer Artem Vesely and Boris Pilnyak, academician-microbiologist Nadson, and scientist and poet Gastev. Sadly, during the Stalinist purges from 1937 to 1941, many of Sosenki’s inhabitants were unjustly arrested and perished, victims of a dark chapter in Russian history. Official records indicate over 14,000 individuals lost their lives during this period. Sosenki, like many places during this time, experienced its share of sorrow. In more recent times, Sosenki has seen significant development. A modern residential complex known as “Kommunarka” has emerged. This complex includes various amenities for residents, such as schools, kindergartens, a sports center with a swimming pool, and even a tennis club. The FOK Tennis.ru complex alone boasts a covered area of about 9000 m² and several outdoor courts. Sosenki also has an educational complex comprising four schools, kindergartens, and a center for extracurricular activities. In 2018, a new school-boarding house for gifted children aged 7-11 opened in Sosenki’s “Letovo” area. Sosenki is a village with a rich tapestry of history and a vibrant present. It continues to evolve. Sosenki remains a hidden gem within Moscow, a testament to the enduring power of community and resilience.
