Deep in the heart of Russia, nestled within the Lomonosovsky District, lies the quaint hamlet of Сойкино. Its story, much like the intricate network of canals in nearby Saint Petersburg, winds through time, carrying whispers of imperial decrees and echoes of rural life. Сойкино first appears on the map of Saint Petersburg in 1792, thanks to A. M. Vilbrecht. Imagine the scene: dense forests teeming with wildlife, the air crisp with the scent of pine, and a small settlement taking root. This was Сойкино in its infancy, a world away from the bustling grandeur of the burgeoning capital. Over the years, Сойкино became a part of the tapestry of rural life surrounding the imperial city. Census records offer glimpses into its growth. In 1849, records show a population of 85 souls, a mix of families and individuals making their lives in this peaceful corner of the empire. By 1862, the hamlet, along with its neighbor Malaya Soikina, was home to 147 inhabitants. Jump forward to 1885. The population has grown, now numbering 21 households, the rhythm of their days dictated by the seasons and the land. As Saint Petersburg transformed, so too did Сойкино. It became administratively linked to the Oranienbaum district, later absorbed into the larger tapestry of Saint Petersburg in the 20th century. Today, Сойкино stands as a testament to its enduring spirit. The 2010 census recorded a population of 183, a small but vibrant community. The hamlet, connected by the 41K-245 highway, is a mere 8.5 kilometers from the administrative center, a reminder of its proximity to the city yet its distinct identity as a tranquil haven.
