Established in 1968 as the Higher Political School of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs, Saint-Petersburg University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has a rich history. It has undergone several name changes. It reflects the evolving political landscape of Russia. In 1992, the school became the Saint-Petersburg Military Institute of Internal Troops and Internal Affairs. This marked a shift towards a more traditional military approach to internal security. Just a few years later, in 1996, it was renamed the Saint-Petersburg Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This reflected a greater emphasis on academic research and training. Finally, in 1998, it achieved university status. Today, we know it as Saint-Petersburg University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It stands as a leading institution. It trains future generations of law enforcement officers and security personnel. The university offers over 100 educational programs. These range from law and criminology to forensic science and cybersecurity. More than 8,000 students are enrolled here today. More than 70% of the university’s professors have earned the highest academic degree, demonstrating the commitment to high-quality education and research.
