Is it just a bridge or a silent witness to St. Petersburg’s evolving story? You are standing before мост Степана Разина. It is a bridge that carries more than just traffic across the Obvodny Canal. Let’s delve into the story of this bridge.

This bridge is named after Stepan Razin. He led a major Cossack rebellion in Russia during the 17th century. мост Степана Разина connects the city’s past with its present.

The first bridge at this location was built in 1914. It was initially called Estlyandsky Bridge. The name came from the adjacent Estlyandskaya Street. In 1923, both the street and the bridge were renamed in honor of Stepan Razin. The bridge officially received its current name in 1939.

The original wooden bridge lasted for over six decades. By the late 1970s, it was in need of replacement due to wear and tear. A new bridge was constructed between 1977 and 1979. This new structure was made of reinforced concrete.

The team of engineers A.D. Guttsait and architect V.M. Ivanov designed the new мост Степана Разина. The bridge has a single-span frame. Its design is similar to the Novo-Kamenniy Bridge.

The bridge has granite-clad supports and frame legs. The metal railings feature a simple design. The roadway and sidewalks are covered with asphalt concrete.
