Did the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic see the Soyuz Vozrozhdeniye Rossii emerge? It was a broad coalition of political parties. These parties opposed the Soviet of People’s Commissars.

Let’s explore the story of this “Soyuz Vozrozhdeniye Rossii” right here. It translates to “Union of the Rebirth of Russia”. SVR emerged in Moscow between March and May 1918. It united political parties against the Soviet government.

The “Soyuz Vozrozhdeniye Rossii” was founded by members of the Kadet party. Key figures included Annsov and Essers. Later independent social democrats joined. These were Mensheviks from “Edinstva”. They stood on the right wing of the RSDLP. Non-party members also joined. They held a state-patriotic viewpoint. They defended popular sovereignty according to Soyuz declarations.

The political platform included several key points. It rejected the Brest peace treaty. It wanted the restoration of Russia within its 1914 borders. This excluded Poland and Finland. The platform sought to revive Russian statehood. They advocated for transferring power. This would occur during a transitional period before convening a constituent assembly. Membership in the Soyuz was individual. Participants retained their party affiliation. The most active branches were in areas of political and military power. These opposed the Bolsheviks such as Arkhangelsk and Vologda. Also Kyiv and Don and Moscow and Petrograd. These branches acted underground.

In the summer of 1918 the SVR had a military commission. General V. G. Boldyrev headed it. He later served in the White Army. In the second half of 1918 leaders like N. V. Chaikovsky, V. A. Myakotin, and others left Moscow.

The political platform of “Soyuz” included several key points. Non-acceptance of the Brest peace. Restoration of Russia within the borders of 1914. Excluding Poland and Finland. Revival of Russian statehood. Transfer of power. The transfer would be in a transitional period. This was before the convocation of the Constituent Assembly.

The Central Committee members participated. They were part of the 1st and 2nd state meetings. These meetings occurred in Chelyabinsk. The Provisional Regional Government of the Urals organized them. L. A. Krol served as Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers. He was also the Minister of Finance.

V. A. Myakotin A. A. Titov and A. V. Peshekhonov formed branches of the Soyuz. These branches were in the south of Russia. Due to travels of these leaders the activity of the “Soyuz” in Moscow practically ceased. This was after the arrest of S. P. Melgunov.

Today Vozrozhdeniye reminds us. Diverse groups unite during upheaval. They pursue common goals for their nation. Though short lived its impact resonated in a turbulent time.
