A whisper of history hangs in the air. Here before us stands Lada Saint Petersburg. This isn’t just a factory. It’s a chapter in Russia’s automotive saga.

Lada Saint Petersburg wasn’t always Lada. It began life in 2006 as Nissan Manufacturing Rus. This ambitious project aimed to produce up to 50000 vehicles annually. The location Pargolovo in Saint Petersburg was carefully chosen. The factory started production in 2009. It produced popular crossovers like the X-Trail Murano and Qashqai. By 2014 its capacity had doubled to 100000 vehicles.

The story takes a turn in March 2022. Sanctions stemming from the Ukraine conflict halted operations. A lack of essential parts brought production to a standstill. The factory’s fate hung in the balance.

In a surprising twist NAMI a state enterprise acquired Nissan Manufacturing Rus for a symbolic price. This included the plant a research facility and Moscow sales offices. A six-year buyback option was included for Nissan.

Then in February 2023 NAMI sold 99% of the company to AvtoVAZ. This marked a new beginning for the plant. AvtoVAZ plans to assemble C and D-segment vehicles. These will be built from kits supplied by other manufacturers. They will carry the Lada and XCITE badges.

The transformation was complete in June 2023. The company was officially re-registered as Lada Saint Petersburg LLC. The first model under the new name is the Lada X-Cross 5. This crossover is actually a rebadged Bestune T77 from FAW. It’s a testament to Lada Saint Petersburg’s adaptability.

This site embodies resilience. It reflects Russia’s automotive industry’s capacity for innovation. It’s a reminder that even in the face of challenges new beginnings can emerge. Lada Saint Petersburg stands as a symbol of this enduring spirit. Its story is far from over.
