Across the shimmering Aegean Sea, a beacon of light has stood for centuries. This is the Faros Kakias Kefalas, a lighthouse that has guided countless ships through the treacherous waters off the coast of Chalkidiki. The Faros Kakias Kefalas, also known as Kaki Kefali Lighthouse, is situated on the namesake cape. It stands 12 meters tall and casts its beam 21 meters above the waves. Built in 1886, this maritime sentinel has witnessed history unfold. It has seen the rise and fall of empires, the ebb and flow of trade, and the constant struggle between man and the sea. Originally powered by petroleum and having a characteristic of a single white flash every 18 seconds, it has undergone several modernizations. The lighthouse was damaged during World War II. It was rebuilt in 1945 with a new characteristic. It then got automated in 1975 and converted to solar power in 1980. The current tower, though simpler, offers spectacular panoramic views. The Faros Kakias Kefalas isn’t just a navigational aid. It’s a symbol of hope, a testament to human ingenuity. It’s a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there’s always a light to guide us home.
