Sofia Mpefon’s work with EKAV was crucial. EKAV is the National Center for Emergency Assistance. In September 1999, a major earthquake struck Athens. Sofia Mpefon served on the Samina Express rescue mission in 2000. This was during a time of heightened tensions with Turkey.

Sofia Mpefon’s dedication shone brightly. She was part of the medical team at the Athens airport. This happened after the catastrophic earthquake of 1999. Sofia Mpefon’s expertise was in anesthesiology. She worked at Laiko Hospital and Aretaieio Hospital.

Tragically, Sofia Mpefon’s life was cut short. On January 14, 2001, she died. It was during a helicopter accident. This happened while serving with EKAV near Sounio. She was just 34 years old.
