Karagiorgis’ early life was marked by imprisonment and exile. He left Greece in 1931. He lived in Vienna and Paris. Eventually he moved to the Soviet Union. He returned to Greece. Then the dictatorial Metaxas Regime arrested and imprisoned him.

After liberation, Karagiorgis directed Rizospastis. Following the outbreak of the Greek Civil War, he joined the Democratic Army of Greece. He commanded the DSE General Headquarters for Southern Greece. Wounded, he was sent to Hungary for treatment. Upon his return, he became Minister for War Supply in the communist \”Mountain Government.\”

The end of the conflict saw Karagiorgis accusing Nikos Zachariadis of defeat. As a result, he was dismissed from his Party positions. He was then imprisoned in Romania. Interrogated by KKE members and the Romanian Securitate, he died in prison. His death likely occurred in 1955.
