“A place of worship” that’s how the location is tagged but what does it really mean? I am here to tell you the captivating story of the Holy Cathedral Church of Agios Konstantinos and Eleni. This church is not just another religious building. It is a point of reference for the city.
The old church was completed on January 1 1937. The first Divine Liturgy took place there. On June 24 1960 the church was inaugurated by the Bishop of Patara, Meletios. Then on October 18 1987 it was declared a parish. This was done by the Metropolitan of Nea Ionia and Philadelphia, Timotheos.
The architecture of the Holy Cathedral Church of Agios Konstantinos and Eleni follows the Basilica with a Trullo style. Inside it has a women’s area with 600 seats. The temple of the Holy Church is decorated with Byzantine rhythms. Its hagiographies are also Byzantine.
Within the Holy Cathedral Church of Agios Konstantinos and Eleni are two chapels. These are dedicated to Agios Serafim of Sarov and Agios Kosmas of Aitolos.
The Holy Church of Agios Konstantinos and Eleni celebrates on May 21st. In the Holy Church of Agios Konstantinos and Eleni the Bishop of Helioupolis, Theoklitos Ledsos, was ordained.
Near the church, one of the characteristics of the old Dimarchio Square of the city was located. It offered an endiaferon view of the pistous and episcopous of the city.
