Let’s step back to 1937. This building was a timber warehouse. It belonged to an old Athenian family. Fast forward to 1998. The great actress Katerina Vasilakou rented it. With Dimitris Kraunakis she transformed it.
For two years Katerina Vasilakou Theater operated until her death. The building spans 1000 square meters. It is divided into three sections. There is the Foyer. The Stage and a Garage which serves as Storeroom.
The warehouse became a 150-seat theater. It became a youth hangout under the name STASSI KERAMEIKOS. In 2000 the main stage opened. The play was Laclos’ Dangerous Liaisons.
The old wooden roof is a main feature. It is visible from inside. Its height makes the space imposing. The old stone walls add to the authenticity. They whisper stories of the past at the Katerina Vasilakou Theater.
Marianna Toli took over in March 2015. She recalls its history with pride. Marianna Toli aims to revive the theater’s spirit. She wants to create a secure and inspired space for creators.
