Agia Skepi’s story is intertwined with Greek history. The Feast of Agia Skepi is celebrated on October 28th. This date coincides with Ohi Day. Ohi Day commemorates Greece’s refusal to surrender to Italy in World War II.
But why this connection? The Holy Synod of the Church of Greece made a decree in 1952. This decree combined the Feast of the Holy Protection with Ohi Day. Greeks honor the Theotokos for her protection during the war. Many miracles were reported during that time. People believed the Virgin Mary watched over them.
