Nestled near the Dazaifu Government Ruins, the Dazaifu Exhibition Hall whispers tales of a powerful past. The Dazaifu Exhibition Hall opened in 1980. It is operated by the Ancient Capital Dazaifu Preservation Association. The Dazaifu Exhibition Hall showcases artifacts and replica models that help visitors learn about Dazaifu’s history and culture. One of the most striking displays is a diorama of the “Plum Blossom Banquet”. This banquet was first held in 730 at the residence of Otomo no Tabito, who served as governor of Dazaifu. The diorama captures the scene with remarkable detail, bringing this historical event to life. The Dazaifu Exhibition Hall displays part of the ruins discovered in 1974. The excavations revealed foundations from the Heian Period, giving us a glimpse into the architecture of that era.
