Hello everyone. We are standing before Mortirnaya batareya No. 2. It is a part of the larger Kronstadt Fortress complex. This fortress is located in Saint Petersburg. More specifically, it’s on Yuzhnaya Kronshtadtskaya Road 44.

Mortirnaya batareya No. 2 is not just one structure. It is part of a series of mortar batteries. These batteries form a key part of Kronstadt’s defenses. The whole complex includes several batteries. The construction spanned over a decade.

The first phase occurred from 1893 to 1897. Engineer V.A. Kukharskiy oversaw this initial construction. Later, from 1899 to 1902, L.P. Kapitsa continued the work. Finally, N.V. Baranov completed the complex between 1902 and 1905. There were also additions made in 1902-1906 and in 1909, under engineers V.F. Valter and N.P. Yudenich.
