Sculpted in steel, the Friendly Heads rise 3.4 meters above us. They watch over Phoenix Lake, a silent testament to artist Bernd Moenikes’ vision. The Friendly Heads were unveiled in 2016. They are more than just imposing figures. They are a gift from the “Schlanke Mathilde” association, a contribution to Dortmund’s vibrant outdoor art scene. The sculpture is part of the Phoenix Lake Sculpture Trail. The heads themselves seem to share a secret conversation, their smooth surfaces reflecting the changing sky. Look closely at the steel. They are a reminder of the power of art to enrich public spaces.
