“What is the Kingdom of God?” That’s a question that echoes through the story of Mission Maranatha here in Tampa. This mission is more than just a building. It is a beacon of faith and service. It actively embodies the spirit of its founders and the global mission it supports.

Let’s step back for a moment. The story of Maranatha, as a broader movement, began in 1969. John Freeman wanted to instill the value of service in his daughters. He organized a mission trip where volunteers flew their own planes to build a church in the Bahamas. This was the start of Maranatha Flights International. People called it the Christian Peace Corps.

Fast forward to 1994. Ministerio Mision Maranatha, Assemblies of God, Inc. officially took root here in Tampa. The Florida Not For Profit Corporation was established on March 15th. Its principal address is 6802 Palm River Road. The mailing address is the same.

The mission’s roots are local but its vision is global. Maranatha Volunteers International has a rich history of service. In 1992, they built 25 churches in the Dominican Republic. This project demonstrated the impact of concentrated efforts. Maranatha then adopted this approach in its subsequent missions.

Maranatha also innovated with the One-Day Church. This is a church frame and roof kit designed for rapid construction. It is made of galvanized steel and is easy to assemble. The One-Day Church became popular. Later, the concept expanded to include the One-Day School.

Here at Mission Maranatha in Tampa, the work reflects this global commitment. Leaders like Luz M Gonzalez, Victor Perez, and Norma Mora guide its path. They continue to file annual reports. They ensure the mission remains active and compliant.

The mission’s work extends beyond construction. Maranatha is deeply involved in strengthening communities. They build churches and schools. This creates stronger and more connected communities.

Consider the words of Apostle Paul. In First Corinthians, he reminds us that the body of Christ is made of many members. Each member has different functions. Mission Maranatha embodies this diversity. It plays its unique role in the larger body of Christ.

The mission’s journey is fueled by a quest to understand and demonstrate the Kingdom of God. This involves reaching out, equipping others, and sending them forth. It means worshiping God with intensity and excellence. It also means creating a spiritual family.

So, as you stand here, remember the story of Mission Maranatha. It is a story of faith, service, and a commitment to building communities both near and far. The mission continues to answer that echoing question. “What is the Kingdom of God?” It answers it through action and dedication every single day.
