It opened its doors in November 1972.

The Otani Memorial Art Museum initially showcased Otani’s original collection. It featured modern Japanese Western paintings, modern Japanese paintings, and modern French paintings. Over time, the museum expanded its collection. It now includes works by local artists mainly from the Hanshin area plus a variety of prints.
