Right here, in the heart of Granada, stands the Iglesia San Juan Bosco, a testament to her unwavering faith and the enduring legacy of the Salesians in Nicaragua. Now, before this magnificent structure, it’s hard to imagine Granada without it. But the story of Iglesia San Juan Bosco begins not with towering arches or stained glass, but with a simple letter penned by Doña Elena to Don Bosco himself. She yearned for the Salesians to grace Nicaraguan soil, to bring their unique blend of education and faith to her beloved city. Sadly, her plea seemed unanswered, as a negative response reached her just five months before her passing. Little did anyone know, fate had a different plan. In 1912, a mere eleven days after Doña Elena’s passing, the first Salesians arrived in Granada, marking the beginning of their century-long influence. The city, already acquainted with Don Bosco’s teachings through circulated bulletins, welcomed them with open arms. A school, workshops, and even an Oratorio blossomed under their guidance, solidifying the Iglesia San Juan Bosco’s place as a beacon of hope and learning for the youth of Granada.
