Legend whispers of the Bobingen Buble a mischievous young man. He outsmarted an Augsburg lawyer. The lawyer demanded payment. The Buble simply replied Bobingen zu and vanished. This tale is etched in Bobingen’s history. It reminds us of a time when wit could triumph over law.

Bobingen a town nestled between the Wertach and Singold rivers boasts a rich history. It’s been a place of importance since at least 993. That year marks Bobingen’s first documented mention in the Vita S Udalrici. The town’s name stems from the Alemannic settler Pobo around 506. Its strategic location near Augsburg made it a significant administrative center. This was especially true during its time as part of the Augsburg Church Estate.

Bobingen’s story continues. After the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 it came under Bavarian rule. The arrival of the railway in 1847 connected it to Lindau and Hof. This brought economic changes. A rayon factory was founded in 1899 starting production in 1902. This sparked industrial growth.

Bobingen achieved market town status in 1953 and became a city in 1969. Several smaller communities joined Bobingen in the 1970s. This expanded its boundaries and population. The Singoldhalle Bobingen’s impressive city hall was completed in 1993. In 1994 a thousand-year anniversary was celebrated a testament to its enduring presence. The city hospital underwent renovation and expansion in 2004. Bobingen has invested in beautification projects throughout its streets and buildings. This shows a commitment to its heritage and future.

Bobingen’s coat of arms displays a black horseshoe on a blue background. The horseshoe’s meaning isn’t perfectly clear. Some believe it represents a thriving horse-breeding industry. Others link it to the many horseshoes found around Bobingen. These are sometimes referred to as Ungarneisen or Hungary irons. They may date back to the Battle of Lechfeld in 955. A seal from around 1815 shows a similar horseshoe. It was part of a system of local emblems along the Hochstrafe. This road was built by Prince-Bishop Clemens Wenzeslaus von Sachsen between 1739 and 1812. He used these emblems for border markings.

Today Bobingen thrives as a modern town. It retains its historical character. Its past is interwoven with its present. This creates a vibrant place. The Bobingen Buble’s legend lives on. A sculpture dedicated to the Buble stands as a playful reminder of Bobingen’s unique spirit. It’s a place of community pride and enduring stories. The town invites you to explore its past and present. Experience the charm of Bobingen for yourself.
