Luke Worsley was born in Windsor on July 3 1981. He enlisted in the Australian Regular Army in 2001. His journey took him from initial training at Singleton to deployments in East Timor. He later served with the 4th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (Commando). He bravely served in Afghanistan. He was awarded the Unit Citation for Gallantry in 2006. Tragically Luke was killed by small arms fire on November 23 2007. He was just 26 years old.
This bridge dedicated on December 9 2011 is more than just steel and concrete. It’s a testament to Luke’s courage. It honors his ultimate sacrifice. His bravery is etched onto a plaque. It details his life his service his untimely death. The plaque sits on a plinth. A small stone garden surrounds the plinth. A flagpole stands nearby.
