“Imagine stepping back in time to when Oberhausbergen was a vital part of Roman life”. Did you know that this charming French commune, a northwestern suburb of Strasbourg, has witnessed thousands of years of human activity?

Oberhausbergen’s story begins long before its current population of over 5,000 residents. Archaeological evidence suggests that the area was inhabited as far back as 600,000 years ago. Neanderthals likely roamed these lands. They used Oberhausbergen as a hunting ground. Later, around 5,000 BC, groups settled here. They practiced agriculture and animal husbandry.

The commune we see today sits on land with a rich past. During the Roman era, Oberhausbergen was an active site. The Gallo-Roman aqueduct is proof of this. Numerous Roman coins have been unearthed in the fields. The Battle of Argentoratum took place nearby around 357 AD.

Following the fall of the Roman Empire, Oberhausbergen experienced turbulent times. Germanic invasions and the arrival of the Huns marked this period. The area remained inhabited. Archaeological discoveries suggest continued occupation during the Merovingian era.

Oberhausbergen has witnessed many internal and external conflicts. During the Reformation, Catholic and Protestant factions clashed here. After the war of 1870-1871, Alsace, including Oberhausbergen, was ceded to Germany. Its strategic importance led to the construction of Fort V, starting in 1872.

Oberhausbergen only found lasting stability after World War II. Infrastructure development followed. In the 1980s, residential development significantly increased the population.

Today, Oberhausbergen is a dynamic commune. It is actively growing. The town evolves with the needs of its citizens in mind. Community gardens flourish. There are parks, a small forest, and facilities for children. Oberhausbergen is known for its cultural appeal. Le PréO Scène is a performance venue. The town also offers a media library and a music and dance school named BolérO.

More than 30 sports and cultural associations create a strong community. The town hosts events like a flea market in May and a July celebration. A pop-up bar adds to the town’s friendly atmosphere in June.

Oberhausbergen balances development and environmental protection. A new complex will be ready by 2025. It will include a school, after-school care, a community hall, and a public park. This project combines architectural innovation with environmental consciousness.

A public urban park near the recreation area serves as the town’s green heart. This park attracts different people and builds connections between generations.

As part of the Eurométropole de Strasbourg, Oberhausbergen benefits from excellent transport links. The CTS network, buses, and Flex’Hop provide public transportation.

Oberhausbergen embraces metropolitan projects. A greenway bike path connects Prévert to the town center. You will also find Véli’vues bicycle services here. The Josué Hoffet schoolyard will soon be greener as well.

In Valparc, private patrons of the arts have created an open-air museum. They have installed sculptures in the business park. This combination of history and modernity defines Oberhausbergen. It is a town that remembers its past while eagerly embracing the future.
