Established in 1985 as Caritas Francis Hsu College. It later became Caritas Institute of Higher Education. January 2024 marked a significant milestone. The institute was upgraded and renamed Saint Francis University. This made it Hong Kong’s first Catholic University. It is the fourth private university in the city.
Saint Francis University comprises five schools. These are Business and Hospitality Management. Computing and Information Sciences. Health Sciences. Humanities and Languages. Social Sciences. The university offers sub-degree and bachelor’s degree programs. It also has master’s degree programs. Saint Francis University hosts over 3400 full-time students. Around 800 part-time students also attend.

The Saint Francis University Library supports learning and research. It includes the Library and the Learning Commons. The Library was established in 2009. It combined the collections of two institutions. These were Caritas Institute of Higher Education and Caritas Bianchi College of Caritas. The Learning Commons was added in September 2017.
The library complex provides ample space for study. It offers quiet zones and group discussion rooms. There is also an e-learning laboratory. The Young’s Corner honors Bishop Michael Yeung Ming-cheung. It provides a comfortable study environment.
The Library boasts extensive collections. As of February 2024. It included around 88783 print books. There were also 46478 print journal issues. Multimedia materials numbered 7415 items. Access to e-resources is also available. These included e-books, e-journals, and e-databases. The Library actively collaborates with other institutions. It shares resources to enhance digital content.
