Eager to learn about Korean history? The Konkuk University Museum is just the place. Opened in March 1963, it houses a diverse collection. This museum reflects Korean art, history and culture.

Konkuk University Museum holds over 5,300 items. These include pottery, wooden crafts, and metalwork. You will also find paintings, books, and pagodas. These artifacts span from the Paleolithic era to the Joseon Dynasty.

One particularly notable item is the Dongguk Jeong-un. It is a dictionary of proper Korean pronunciation of Chinese characters. King Sejong commissioned royal scholars to print it in 1448. This dictionary is Korea’s 142nd National Treasure.

Interestingly, the building itself has historical significance. Before becoming a museum, it housed the Northwest study society. In October 1945, Dr. Yoo established ‘Konkuk Charity School’ here. This was shortly after Korea’s liberation. The museum displays the university’s history. It explains its founding as a charity school. It shows its development into a fully running university with a medical college.

The museum displays relics of Dr. Yoo and university items. These range from cigarette lighters to medical appliances. You can see stamps, seals, and university badges. The original version of the School Song is kept here. Memorial tablets are also on display.

Festival banners and awards received by the university are exhibited. The museum also has relics from previous buildings. A wall is dedicated to notable alumni in arts, sports, business, and politics.

The Konkuk University Museum is located next to the Administration Building. It’s easy to reach via Konkuk University station. Take line 2 or 7 to exit 4.

The museum is open Tuesday to Friday. Visiting hours are from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Admission is free.

So, step inside the Konkuk University Museum. Discover Korean history through its impressive collection. Experience the legacy of Konkuk University. Remember the stories these artifacts hold.
