“Fancy a trip to the movies?” Ever since “Parasite” won Best Picture at the Oscars, fans have flocked to Seoul. They want to see the real filming locations. Today, we are standing at one of those memorable sites. This is a tour of the “Parasite” filming location.
“Parasite” gained global recognition. Director Bong Joon Ho masterfully used locations as characters. The movie highlights the economic disparities in Korea. The locations around Seoul add depth to the story.
Our first stop is the Jahamun Tunnel. Remember the scene after the Park family returns home unexpectedly? The Kim family had to escape. They ran down the stairs and through this tunnel. This is the north side of the Jahamun Tunnel. Imagine the desperation they felt. The tunnel symbolizes the stark contrasts between the rich and the poor.
Next, we will visit Dwaejissal Supermarket. In the film, it is Woori Super. This is where Ki-taek sits drinking soju with his friend Min. Min tells him about the tutoring position. It is here that the story unfolds. The supermarket is a typical mom-and-pop shop. You can find these in residential areas. The large umbrella is gone now. Still, you can recognize the exterior.
After that, we will see the stairs in Ki-taek’s village. Stairs play an important role in “Parasite”. They show the transition of social classes. Remember the scene where Ki-Jeong buys a peach? These are those stairs. Fans come here to take selfies.
Finally, we will end our tour at Sky Pizza. The Kim family folds pizza boxes for this shop in the movie. Later, they dine on pizza here. The shop is small and located in a residential area. Inside, you can see pizza boxes signed by the actors. There are also autographed pictures of Director Bong. They also serve delicious fried chicken.
Taking a tour of “Parasite” filming locations is a lot of fun. Remember to respect the privacy of the local residents. Be sure to bring your camera.
