Ever wondered what it feels like to be surrounded by hundreds of fluttering wings? Welcome to the Schmetterlingspark in Sassnitz. It is a tropical oasis where you can experience the magic of free-flying butterflies.

Since July 2003, the Schmetterlingspark has been enchanting visitors. It is the fourth butterfly park in Germany operated by alaris. What sets this park apart is the unique coastal light. The high UV content mirrors the natural light conditions that South American butterflies thrive in.

Inside this free-flight hall, prepare to be amazed by around 500 butterflies. You can admire 150 different species in a comfortable temperature of 30 degrees. The butterflies come from four continents and are sourced exclusively from breeding farms. You’ll see bird butterflies, passion flower butterflies and blue morphos. Around 100 different species are constantly on display here at the Schmetterlingspark.

The Schmetterlingspark lets you witness the entire life cycle of these delicate creatures. Observe them from egg to caterpillar to pupa and finally to the adult butterfly. Keep an eye out for the dwarf quails. They help to control any insect pests in the park.

Prepare to be amazed by the diversity of butterflies. See radiant blue sky butterflies flutter over the pond. Watch colorful passion butterflies dance around passion flowers. Follow swallowtails as they flit through the leaves. Marvel at the size of banana butterflies and their rapid flight. Don’t miss the largest butterfly in the world. The Atlas silk spinner boasts a wingspan of up to 30 centimeters.

From the gallery, enjoy a great view of the entire hall. Take a closer look and discover the various developmental stages of the butterflies. After your tour of the Schmetterlingspark, relax in the cafeteria. Enjoy coffee and cake. Before you leave, browse the shop. You will find many butterfly-themed souvenirs. Brochures and posters are available.

The Schmetterlingspark is open from April 1st to November 1st. There are no days of rest. You can visit from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm. From October 1st to October 28th, the opening hours are from 10 am to 5 pm. Come and immerse yourself in the captivating world of butterflies at the Schmetterlingspark.
