Imagine walking down Marietta Street; a blend of grit and grace, history and hip, it is an artery of Atlanta. Turn a corner, and there it is, standing proudly, King Plow Arts Center. A former factory for plows that turned into a haven for artists. It is now a creative hub, brimming with vibrant studios, workshops, and galleries.

King Plow Arts Center. This massive complex in West Midtown, Atlanta, has a history as rich as the artwork it houses. The buildings, originally part of the Atlanta Plow Company, were erected in 1902. Their purpose – to produce plows and other agricultural tools – was a far cry from their current purpose.

For over 80 years, the Atlanta Plow Company was a vital part of Atlanta’s industrial heart. It churned out tools that helped farmers across the state till the land, but time marches on. By the late 1980s, the factory fell silent. The whirring machinery stopped, the metal smell faded, and the buildings became echoes of a bygone era.

Things changed. In 1990, the owners decided to transform the old factory into a haven for creative minds, a place where artistic energy would bloom. The project involved merging the past with the present. Eleven buildings, each representing a different period of the company’s history, became home to studios, workspaces, and galleries – all under one roof. The old machines, now dormant, added a touch of industrial charm to the space.

The King Plow Arts Center is more than just a place for art displays. It’s a vibrant community. It’s home to hundreds of tenants and condominium owners – sculptors, painters, photographers, and even a fashion photographer. It’s where artists and creatives come together to inspire each other, share ideas, and push the boundaries of imagination. King Plow is the largest arts hub in Atlanta. It continues to thrive, and it’s a testament to how art can reinvent and revitalize a space, transforming it from a symbol of the past into a beacon of the present.
