How about experiencing the largest marine-life theme park in North America? That is SeaWorld San Antonio. It stands as a testament to conservation, education, and animal rescue.

SeaWorld San Antonio initially called Sea World of Texas opened its doors on May 27 1988. Harcourt Brace and Jovanovich developed it. A staggering 75000 people flocked to the opening. This aquatic wonderland quickly became a sensation. Within its first year SeaWorld San Antonio drew 3.3 million visitors. It was declared the largest educational marine-life theme park globally.

The park spans 416 acres. SeaWorld San Antonio is home to an array of marine life. It has an impressive collection of beluga whales. The park boasts one of the most successful beluga breeding programs in the United States. Half of the belugas here were born right here. Several belugas at other U.S. facilities also trace their origins to SeaWorld San Antonio.

SeaWorld San Antonio became the permanent residence for Tyonek. He is a rescued Cook Inlet beluga. He bonded surprisingly with Betty. Betty is one of the park’s Pacific white-sided dolphins. As of 2024, SeaWorld San Antonio is home to ten belugas.

Bottlenose dolphins also thrive here. SeaWorld San Antonio houses sixteen. Eleven reside at Discovery Point. Here interaction programs take place. Guests enjoy above-water and underwater viewing. Five other dolphins live in Zoological Support. This backstage area provides specialized veterinary care. It serves as the park’s main rescue hub. Three rescued bottlenose dolphins also live here.

SeaWorld San Antonio is one of only two U.S. facilities caring for Pacific white-sided dolphins. Seven of these captivating creatures reside at Beluga Stadium.

Beyond marine mammals SeaWorld San Antonio showcases a variety of animals. Guests can observe California sea lions and harbor seals. You can also see Asian small-clawed otters and African spot-necked otters. This is a unique offering. Other SeaWorld parks typically only display freshwater otters during shows.

The park opened a new sea turtle exhibit in 2019. It features rescued loggerhead and green sea turtles. They live alongside schools of marine fish. The exhibit uses a natural biofiltration system. A salt marsh helps purify the water.

SeaWorld San Antonio boasts thrilling rides. Catapult Falls is the world’s first launched flume ride. Texas Stingray is the tallest, longest, and fastest wooden roller coaster in Texas. Wave Breaker is a double-launch coaster themed to animal rescue. The Great White is the park’s first coaster. Steel Eel provides a non-looping experience. Journey to Atlantis combines a roller coaster with a water ride. Tidal Surge is the world’s largest Screamin’ Swing.

Live entertainment enchants visitors. Orca Encounter replaced the theatrical orca shows in 2020. Beluga Stadium hosts shows with beluga whales and dolphins. Sea Lion Stadium features Clyde and Seamore in Sea Lion & Otter Spotlight. Bayside Stadium hosts water skiing stunt shows. Nautilus Amphitheater hosts various shows. Sea Star Theatre presents engaging productions.
