Step back in time for a moment and imagine you’re standing before a grand historical landmark. You’re in front of The Wimbish House, a magnificent home built in the French Renaissance Revival style known as Chatuesque. The Wimbish House, a cherished Midtown icon, is located at 1150 Peachtree Street. It is a national, state, and city landmark. The Wimbish House was designed in 1906 by the esteemed Atlanta architect, W. T. Downing, who, as one of the city’s most prominent architects, also designed other iconic structures, like the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Trinity United Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church, and Lupton Hall at Oglethorpe University. Its steep gables, intricate detailing, and massive stone masonry ornamentation set it apart as an architectural treasure. In 1979, The Wimbish House was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The Wimbish House is owned by the Atlanta Woman’s Club, and funds from its operation are used to support the Club’s charitable activities. Today, it is a beloved event venue, hosting weddings, concerts, and other events. But beyond its elegance, The Wimbish House whispers tales of a bygone era. It’s a place where history, culture, and community come together. Just imagine the grand parties and intimate family gatherings that have filled its rooms throughout the years. The Wimbish House invites us to step inside its doors and discover the stories of the city, and its people, preserved within its walls.
