What if a bridge could tell a story? Here, in the heart of Salzburg, stands the “Beyond Recall” sculpture. It’s a poignant reminder of the city’s wartime past. Four semi-transparent glass cubes, sitting atop the four bridgeheads of the Staatsbruecke, gleam with neon inscriptions. The artist, Brigitte Kowanz, chose these very bridgeheads because they are the same ones that prisoners of war and forced laborers toiled on during World War II. “Beyond Recall” whispers of their unseen sacrifices, their stories etched in the neon light.
