Haven’t you heard? Redeemer Lutheran Church has been a steadfast member of the Sugar House community since 1961. Redeemer Lutheran Church welcomes you. This church is a confessional congregation. It belongs to the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Its worship has dignity and reverence. It observes the historic liturgy. The faith in Jesus Christ unites the Redeemer Lutheran Church community.
Redeemer Lutheran Church was started as a mission project. It was under the auspices of the Mission Board of the Colorado District. St. John’s Lutheran Church in Salt Lake City helped too. The Church Extension Fund of the Colorado District financed the mission.
Back in 1948, a residence was purchased. It was located at 1885 East Hillcrest Avenue in Salt Lake City. Reverend H. Klein and Reverend R. Schulz conducted worship services there.
Reverend Robert Hoyer was installed as Redeemer’s first resident pastor on December 4, 1949. On Easter Sunday, April 9, 1950, 42 adults became communicant members. Redeemer congregation was organized as an official member. It belonged to the Colorado District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The present chapel was dedicated on March 8, 1953.
The first educational wing of Redeemer Lutheran Church was dedicated in 1959. The second wing followed in 1961. The Christian Day School began with grades 1 to 6. Today, the school serves kindergarteners through 8th grade. It offers music, art, computers, Spanish, and after school sports. Redeemer Lutheran Church has a strong core curriculum.
Redeemer Lutheran Church is known for its exceptional student-teacher ratios. It also has accredited educators. Its Christian character development program is robust.
Redeemer Lutheran Church celebrates diversity. Members come from various backgrounds. They have different interests and talents. The church invites everyone to experience the joy and love of Christ.
The congregation and school communities are presently working to expand the chapel. They also want to build a new multi-purpose facility.
