What echoes linger within the walls of a house built on memories? We stand before the Cleone Peterson Eccles Alumni House, a place where the past and present of the University of Utah intertwine. The Alumni House isn’t just a building. It’s a living testament to the enduring spirit of the U, a place where generations of students have forged connections and celebrated milestones. Dedicated in 2018, the current Alumni House represents a significant expansion, nearly doubling the size of the original structure. This expansion was made possible through the generosity of the Spencer F. and Cleone P. Eccles Family and other alumni. The design of the Alumni House pays tribute to Cleone Peterson Eccles. Her warmth, elegance, and devotion to the University are reflected throughout the building. The beautiful ballroom on the second level is a popular venue for events. It can accommodate over 300 guests for dinners and receptions. The Alumni House also houses the headquarters for the U’s Alumni Association, which serves a global network of over 265,000 alumni. The Association offers various services, including career coaching, scholarships, and the management of The MUSS, the U’s spirited student athletics fan club. It also plays a key role in organizing events like Homecoming and a large annual food drive. This building has witnessed countless celebrations, from weddings and anniversaries to conferences and meetings. It has served as a hub for alumni activities and community gatherings since 1980. The original Alumni House was established with the help of Spencer F. Eccles in the 1970s. The recent expansion and renaming in Cleone’s honor bring their family’s story full circle.
