Twin Peaks are often called the American Fork Twin Peaks. This helps distinguish them from other similarly named peaks in the area.
Twin Peaks are more than just a pretty view. One summit reaches an impressive 11461 feet. This makes it the highest point in Salt Lake County. The Twin Peaks Wilderness was established in 1984. This was thanks to the Utah Wilderness Act. The Act designated certain lands within the National Forest System for preservation. Twin Peaks Wilderness covers 13100 acres. Later in 2023 a small adjustment of -10 acres was made. The reasons for the adjustment are unclear.
Interestingly the area’s climate is quite extreme. The average temperatures vary drastically between seasons. Snow can be present late into summer. Summer highs are over 60 degrees Fahrenheit while winter lows dip below freezing. Precipitation is also high especially in the winter. Averages are about 61 inches of precipitation per year. This makes it a unique environment.
