Dhofar University was established in January 2004 by Ministerial Decree No. 5/2004. The university started its operations in September 2004. Dhofar University is located in Salalah. This city is known for its beautiful geography. It is blessed with green mountains and pristine beaches. The weather is moderate throughout the year. The Dhofar University campus covers 450,000 square meters. It blends modern and traditional Omani architecture. The campus can accommodate up to 10,000 students.

Dhofar University is the first university in Oman with national and international accreditations. It was accredited nationally by the Oman Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education in December 2018. In April 2019, it gained international accreditation by the Accreditation Services for International Schools Colleges and Universities from the UK.

Dhofar University consists of four colleges. These are the College of Arts & Applied Sciences, the College of Commerce & Business Administration, the College of Engineering and the College of Law. Dhofar University currently offers 39 programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Instruction is mainly in English. Some programs are offered in Arabic.

The university has a team of dedicated faculty members. These 166 full-time and 30 part-time faculty come from 20 different countries. They use innovative teaching methods. The university encourages research among faculty and students. It provides facilities and financial support. The Department of Research manages internal and external grants. Dhofar University’s faculty has over 2000 publications in recognized journals. These journals are indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. Researchers have been ranked among the world’s top 2% of scientists by Stanford and AD Science Index.

The university moved to its new campus in November 2010. The campus includes an administration building and separate buildings for colleges. It also has a common classroom building and a library. You can also find an engineering workshop and a student activities center. A mosque and a female student hostel are also on the campus. The common classroom building has four wings. Dhofar University also has a multipurpose hall. It seats over 1000 people. This hall is used for social and religious activities. High-speed WIFI is available 24/7 throughout the campus.

Dhofar University ensures compliance with Omani Health and Safety Laws. It conducts regular inspections. External agencies also carry out safety checks. The university provides facilities for students with special needs. All buildings have ramps and designated toilets. There is a centrally located mosque on campus. Prayer rooms are also available in college buildings.

Dhofar University has two cafeterias for male and female students. Each college has a coffee shop. The ladies’ hostel has a large restaurant and a mini supermarket. The on-campus clinic provides basic health services to students and staff. Security guards patrol the campus 24/7. Surveillance cameras cover the entire campus.

The university offers support services through various centers. These include the Centre for Entrepreneurship and the Computer & Networking Centre. Also, the Community Service & Continuing Education Centre, the Centre for Teaching & Learning and the Learning Support Centre. Dhofar University provides free furnished accommodation for female students on campus. The hostel can accommodate up to 1000 students.
