Ever wondered what happens when a waterworks transforms into a music haven? Right here in Roskilde, Gimle Music Place and Bar stands as a testament to this unique transformation. Gimle, housed in Roskilde’s old waterworks, has been a vibrant part of the city’s cultural scene since 2000. Gimle Music Place and Bar isn’t just a venue. It’s a youth culture house, a regional hub for rhythmic music, and a launchpad for emerging talent. Gimle Music Place and Bar hosts around 300 artists every year, ranging from local up-and-comers to established Danish stars and international sensations. Gimle’s commitment to music extends beyond concerts. It embraces a diverse range of cultural events, including stand-up comedy, open stage nights, debates, international evenings, children’s programs, and even quiz nights. But Gimle is more than just music. It also houses The Raven, an international café known for its affordable food and drink and relaxed atmosphere. The Raven extends its welcome into the late hours every Friday and Saturday, transforming into a night café. Gimle itself is powered by the passion of over 120 volunteers, 12 permanent staff, and around 30 part-time employees. This dedicated team ensures the smooth operation of everything from the office and kitchen to the cleaning and sound engineering. From its humble beginnings as a waterworks to its current status as a cultural powerhouse, Gimle Music Place and Bar continues to quench the city’s thirst for music and community.
