“Did you ever hear of a venue that hosted a handball match and a concert on the same day?” I ask, as we stand before the Roskilde Kongres- og Idrætscenter. This isn’t just any venue. It’s a dynamic hub, a testament to Roskilde’s vibrant spirit. The Roskilde Kongres- og Idrætscenter first opened its doors in 1959. Since then, it has continuously evolved, growing to accommodate the city’s ever-expanding needs. The latest expansion, a masterpiece by Christensen & Co., was completed in 2013. Today, the Roskilde Kongres- og Idrætscenter boasts a sprawling 13,500 square meters of floor space. Think four main halls, a plethora of smaller meeting rooms, and an exhibition area of 6,500 square meters. Imagine everything from intimate gatherings of 20 to grand events with 2,500 guests. This place has seen it all: conferences, meetings, sporting events, fairs, concerts, theatrical performances, even boisterous parties. Hall D, the newest and largest, is a particular marvel. It can comfortably seat 2,000 spectators for a handball match and then transform to hold an astounding 4,000 concert-goers. It’s the proud home of the Roskilde Handball Club. And after an exciting game or a mesmerizing performance, you can enjoy a delicious meal at the on-site restaurant. It offers a stunning view of the historic Roskilde Cathedral. One of the most convenient features of the Roskilde Kongres- og Idrætscenter is the ample parking. With 750 free parking spaces, accessibility is never an issue.
