Established in 1961 Yamama Cement Company stands as a testament to Saudi Arabia’s industrial growth. Its story is one of innovation and expansion. Located in Riyadh Yamama is not just a cement producer. It’s a cornerstone of the nation’s construction industry.
Initially Yamama began modestly. Production started in 1966 with a single production line. This line produced 300 tons of clinker daily. Clinker is the unfinished cement. It is then ground to become Portland cement. This is the most common type of cement used today.
The company rapidly expanded. A second production line was added in 1972. This line boosted production to 800 tons of clinker a day. Further expansions followed. By 1985 Yamama had incorporated new technology. This new technology was a 3000-ton-a-day preheating short kiln. This increased production significantly. By 2018 the company had twelve 18V50DF Wärtsilä engines. This setup generated 198 MW of power. This made it the largest engine plant in Saudi Arabia.
Yamama’s growth mirrors Saudi Arabia’s own. The company’s success is deeply intertwined with the kingdom’s development. It played and still plays a vital role in constructing Saudi Arabia’s infrastructure. From roads to schools Yamama’s cement helped shape the modern nation.
In 2008 Yamama produced 4.5 million tons of cement and clinker. This was slightly down from 2007. This reduction was partially due to an export ban imposed by the government. Despite this setback Yamama persevered. It continues to be a leading cement manufacturer in the central region of Saudi Arabia.
Today Yamama Cement Company remains a powerful symbol. It stands as a symbol of Saudi Arabia’s progress and its unwavering commitment to its future.
