The University of West Attica known as UNIWA was officially established in March 2018. This happened through National Law 4521. It was born from the merging of two significant institutions. These were the Technological Educational Institute of Athens and Piraeus University of Applied Sciences. Later in 2019, the National School of Public Health became part of UNIWA.

UNIWA quickly grew to become the third-largest university in Greece. This is based on student numbers. Currently, the University of West Attica boasts around 57,800 undergraduate students. Additionally, it has 5,500 postgraduate students and 780 doctoral candidates. UNIWA has three campuses in the Athens metropolitan area.

This Campus 1, also known as the Egaleo Park Campus is located in the Municipality of Egaleo. It is surrounded by Milou, Agiou Spyridonos, Dimitsanis, and Edessis streets.

UNIWA includes twenty-seven departments. They are organized into six schools. These schools cover diverse fields. They include Public Health, Management, Economics, and Social Sciences. There is also the School of Food Sciences. The School of Health and Welfare Sciences. The School of Applied Arts and Culture. And finally, the School of Engineering.
