“Need a place to pitch your tent?” a voice called out from the riverbank. “The Zeltplatz Regensburger Kanu-Club e.V. welcomes you!” The Zeltplatz Regensburger Kanu-Club e.V. is a haven for those traveling along the Danube. This campsite, nestled on the right bank of the Danube, offers a beautiful spot for river travelers, cyclists, and hikers from mid-May to mid-September. The Regensburger Kanu-Club (RKC) created this idyllic space on their grounds. The RKC, founded in 1924, has a rich history. The club, originally started by a small group of folding boat enthusiasts, has grown into a vibrant community of around 240 members. The Zeltplatz Regensburger Kanu-Club e.V. lies conveniently close to the Danube Cycle Route. It’s just 400 meters upstream from the Regensburg dam. Boaters can easily access the campsite by docking at the RKC jetty at Danube river kilometer 2381.7. From there, it’s a mere 20-meter carry to the tent area, located at the back of the grassy grounds. As you settle in, remember this is a Landschaftsschutzgebiet. Campfires are allowed, but only within the confines of your own fire bowl. No fixed fire pits are available. The boathouse provides 24/7 access to showers and toilets. For dishwashing, a separate facility is available at the rear of the property. If you need refreshments or a more substantial meal, the Sportgaststätte, run by the neighboring “Freier TuS” sports club, is right next door. Regensburg’s Altstadt, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a pleasant 15-minute walk along the Danube. While the Zeltplatz Regensburger Kanu-Club e.V. offers a peaceful retreat, it’s also connected to the city’s vibrant history. From ancient Roman fortifications to medieval architecture, Regensburg offers a wealth of cultural experiences. After a day of exploration, return to the tranquility of the Zeltplatz, knowing you’re just steps away from the gentle rhythm of the Danube. As dusk settles, a member of the RKC will be at the boathouse between 5 pm and 9 pm to collect camping fees and answer any questions. If you don’t see them, simply drop your fee in the “Camping-Box” inside the clubhouse. So, unpack your gear, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy the unique charm of the Zeltplatz Regensburger Kanu-Club e.V.
