Richard Triebe created this monument. Triebe knew Schrems personally. The Verein Freunde des Regensburger Domchores e. V. donated it. The monument portrays Schrems in an energetic way.

Schrems was a Roman Catholic theologian and priest. He was also the Domkapellmeister. This means he directed the music at the Regensburg Cathedral. He co-founded the Musikgymnasium der Regensburger Domspatzen. This was a school for the Regensburg Cathedral choirboys.

Schrems held several important positions. He was a music teacher at the Knabenseminar. Later, he became the director of music at the Regensburg Cathedral in 1924. He remained in that role until his death in 1963. Schrems earned a state certificate in church and school music. He studied with Carl Thiel from 1925 to 1928. Schrems created a new structure. It combined a high school, boarding school, and choir. This helped the Regensburger Domspatzen achieve fame.

Theobald Schrems received several honors. In 1953, he won the Nordgau Culture Prize. He also received the Albertus Magnus Medal. In 1963, Regensburg made him an honorary citizen. He received the Bavarian Order of Merit in 1959. Streets in Regensburg and Mitterteich bear his name. Mitterteich also named a school after him. A bust of Schrems stands on the school grounds.

Franz Lehrndorfer composed a mass in Schrems’ honor. It premiered in the Regensburg Cathedral in 2008. The choir was made up of former Domspatzen.
